Location

Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica

Sitting on the western edge of the Nicoya Peninsula, Santa Teresa is a tiny beach village that draws in a lot of surfers and beach bodies. In the last several years, this laid-back town has blossomed into a booming travel destination. Despite its size, Santa Teresa has been hailed as world-class surfing spot in Costa Rica - with gorgeous white sandy beaches and swells that put a smile on surfers' faces year-round.

With consistent off-shore winds, Santa Teresa boasts swells that have been known to attract surfers from all over the globe. Even with its amazing surf the waters here are not localized, welcoming surfers of any level. Bringing in the Pacific waters, waves range from moderate to strong. Although surfing conditions are top-notch through the year, the best time to visit Santa Teresa beach is from May to December, which is the tropical rainy season called the "green season." During this time, the waves are at their peak and there are many barrels to be ridden. Bright sun and gleaming sands make the perfect backdrop to hang ten in the crystal-clear waters, and fishing, snorkeling and kite-surfing are popular among holiday-makers. Yoga and spa services are a must for the ultimate relaxation, and, at night, catch a glorious sunset on the same beach where earlier you caught a wave.

The fastest way to arrive in Santa Teresa is by catching a ferry from Paquera. The boat ride lasts about 65 minutes, curving around the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. Another option is taking a domestic flight from the Juan Santa Maria International Airport near San Jose to the Tambor Domestic Airport, which is a 25-minute flight. From here, you can find a bus or taxi that will head southwest approximately 35 kilometers.

Food

Breakfast is almost always the easiest meal for vegetarians to find in Costa Rica. Here, a traditional Costa Rican breakfast is usually meat-free, marrying together rice, beans, eggs, fried plantain and sometimes sour cream coupled this with delicious coffee. This is a nourishing and protein-packed start to the day. In Casa Azul, the kitchen is equipped with a full size refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, glasses, silverware, a counter and sink. A well-appointed kitchen for your breakfast, lunch, snacks and cold drinks.

There is usually a good supply of condiments in the refrigerator. Everything else is on your own. There are at least twelve restaurants within a one to five minute walk from Casa Azul and what's great is you can prepare your own healthy meals just the way you like it!

Venue   Hotel Casa Azul
Hotel Casa Azul, Venue for 7 Day Costa Rica Surf & SUP

Hotel Casa Azul is a small, private, beachfront hotel on a large property of two and half acres. The hotel offers three hotel rooms on the first floor, a second floor two bedroom luxurious suite, and two casitas, or small houses. Many clients return the following season with friends or family and rent the entire two story building which functions very comfortably as a five bedroom, four bathroom top quality beachfront home. Some of the hotel's popular amenities include A/C, ceiling fans, screens, hot water, private bathrooms, lockup boxes, kitchens, private patios and hammocks. New additions to the property include a 2014 beach front yoga, shade and hammock rancho and a 2016 beach front bar restaurant, Blu Bistro.

Hotel Casa Azul offers a private, intimate setting with twelve to sixteen guests at a time. From all the rooms (except the small rear room), the suite, the patios, the hammocks, the pool and the casita, you can see and hear the ocean and waves. The hotel offers private beach access, a seductive 50 foot swimming pool and extensive gardens with abundant wildlife.

To get to the hotel, there are two choices: Sansa which flies out of the international airport and Nature Air which flies out of the regional airport in Pavas, a San Jose suburb. Both airlines have several flights daily into Tambor, a twenty five minute flight. From Tambor to ST/MP it is a 40 minute ride. Another option is to have a rental car waiting for you at Tambor. Casa Azul is centrally located in town and many clients have found they do not need a car. If a client does want to explore the area, car rental agencies are located right at the beach, 100 yards from our entrance. ATV rentals are popular too as are the local taxis.
