Location

Zanzibar, Tanzania

Jambiani is a village on the Tanzanian island of Unguja, part of Zanzibar. It is situated on the southeast coast between Paje and Makunduchi. It is a long village on a stunning stretch of coastline. The village is collection of coral-rag houses. Its waters reflect an ethereal shade of turquoise and dotted with outrigger canoes.

Admire the pristine beaches, enjoying the white sand and blue turquoise waters. As in other beaches on the eastern coast, the tide goes out very far. There are many beautiful seashells to gather, but please do not remove them from the beach as they provide homes for various sea creatures.

You can also take a trip on a dhow (small wooden sailboat). Hotels and guesthouses often run trips, so you can just go for a sail or go out to the coral reef and snorkel. The coral reef here is not as spectacular as you would find in the Great Barrier Reef, for example, but it is still possible to see many types of coral, starfish, sea urchins, tropical fish, and sometimes octopuses.

The people that surround the place are women on the beach tending seaweed farms. This quiet village benefits from fairly good services. They have a post office, a bakery, primary and secondary schools, a tourism training institute, and a nursery. This is one of the best places to gain an insight into village life.

Dalla-dallas or taxis are available from Stone Town going to Jambiani. Many hotels and guesthouses also run shuttles back and forth and the trip takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Food

A delicious and hearty breakfast is included daily at our wonderful location. Fresh fruits such as local mangoes, pineapple and passion fruit, plus juices, eggs, local breads and heavenly sweets are all part of our daily post-yoga meal. Vegetarian options and non-vegetarian dishes such as fresh fish are on the menu each evening. An afternoon tea and special snack is also included as part of our package. You will sit poolside with fruit, coffee, tea and freshly baked sweets to refresh and relax before your afternoon yoga session.
