Completing your yoga certification on Koh Phangan is something like a fantasy.
The island is small, mountainous and extremely beautiful. A tropical paradise set in the Gulf of Thailand.
The protected bays around it's shore are lapped by turquoise water and bordered by palm trees.
A lot of the island is still quite untouched and reminiscent of 'old thailand'.
You can still rent a hut on the beach here and be woken by the soft waves in the bay. It really is a tropical fantasy world and so has become a hub for yogis and the yoga teacher training experience.
The yoga course venues are just awesome. Some centers and yoga schools are in bays, with the yoga shala on the beach.
Others are in secluded spots surrounded by lush jungle. The island is one big rainforest.
People flock here every year to unwind, enjoy the vibe and do some serious yoga training.
It's amazing how an awesome environment like this helps with the yogic lifestyle. Without distractions you can delve deeper into your practice and understanding. And it helps with the focus and commitment that a yoga certification course demands.
Literally you can get lost here, leaving the 'Western' 'work' 'rat race' behind.
And just immerse yourself in the most awesome yoga teacher training course of your desire.
And it doesn't have to stop here. There are beautiful neighbouring islands offering just as many yogi hangouts.
And because its been a yoga retreat trail for so long the services around on the islands are great.
Health food, alternative therapies, detox centers, a number of different ways you can add to your stay. With the food in Thailand you often don't need to chase health food, the delicious vegetarian curries and dishes are so satisfying.
Attending a Yoga Teacher Training here is quite popular and the great thing is that they can be quite affordable.
The schools have been around for some time so run established and well organised programs.
They are a mix of yoga schools based at the actual centres themselves on Koh Phangan. And also visiting international schools who bring their team to run intensive training retreats.
You can read all about their different courses, content and philosophy here.
And they really can be affordable. Quite a few courses are under USD2000.
The answer is yes. All the centers that offer intensive teacher training courses and the visiting schools have yoga alliance accreditation and will provide you with your certification.
Yovada only represents trusted and reputable schools with accreditation so if the course is on this website then everything is OK.
A minimum of 20 days usually and often a month, which matches the time on a visitor visa to Thailand.
So if you do not want to extend your visa whilst you are there the time period is perfect. Most yogis hang around, its such a beautiful place it is hard not to hang out there for a while.
Especially after the experience of completing a yoga teacher training for a month.
You will have earnt the right to chill out for some time.
If you are OK with rains then any time of year. The rains come and go and the yoga courses still go on.
The island can be quite wet during monsoon so if you want to be assured of good weather and not too humid yet then January to April are best.
When the yoga training that you really want to attend is taking place will probably beat the weather though.
